Today is my last day in Valletta, Malta, and I really don’t want to go home! We got up, got dressed and checked out of the hotel. We left our bags there and went into the old town of Valletta to explore it a bit more together. Just as nice as the first time! We had pizza for lunch at a really nice place because nobody can go to Malta and not have pizza right? Haha. We both ordered a different one and then ate half of each. It was amazing! We then went back to the hotel to get our bags and had a driver take us to the airport, where we lounged for a bit before we had to board our planes. We each had to get on a different plane, so this is where we said goodbye.
Now my journey home did not go smooth at all. Let me start by saying I got home safely, which is obviously the most important part. However, I was still absolutely annoyed by how my journey home went. First of all, I had to take two flights to get home, which I knew because I booked them. The first one was Malta to Frankfurt and the second one Frankfurt to Amsterdam. Now my first flight was delayed almost an hour. So I wouldn’t be able to get on my connecting flight, which I was worrying about a lot. That is untill I found out my connecting flight had been cancelled. Yes, cancelled! No one really informed me or anyone else on why the flight was cancelled or why the first one was delayed, which was annoying, but I’m guessing the flight got cancelled because of the storm in Frankfurt. So when I got to Frankfurt, I got a message saying they managed to put me on another flight the next morning at 9, which is 12 hours later than was planned. I wanted to stay in a hotel that night but all of the hotels at the airport were fully booked already, which sucked. So basically this meant I had to spend the night at the airport itself, since I wasn’t willing to go into the city just to find a hotel and get up extremely early to go to the airport again. So that’s what I did. I spent the night in the hallways of the airport, like many other people did.
Best part of today: Pizza in Valletta
I really didn’t know what to do with myself in all those hours of waiting at the airport in the middle of the night, but I survived! Basically I just listened to music, did some puzzeling and scrolled through all of my social media untill I’d seen everything twice. I also spent a lot of time in the womens toilets because that’s the only place that had wall outlets haha. The terminal finally opened and I went through security, got some breakfast and then had to wait at the gate again. On top of this all, the gate also got changed, so I had to go to the complete other side of the terminal. Of course that wasn’t really a problem since I was incredibly early anyways. I just sat at the gate, barely able to keep my eyes open, waiting for boarding to start. Boarding got delayed, god knows why, but eventually we all got on the plane and I made it back to Amsterdam safely. After another two hour trainride and a 5 minute drive I finally arrived home! First thing I did was sleep haha.
Best part of today: Being able to sleep again!
